Last weekend saw the re-introduction of the Danielle Carter Memorial tournament to mark the 25th Anniversary of the incident that tragically took Danielle’s life.
This weekend saw teams come from far and wide and the for many of the teams it was a return to playing with a ball, and to make it even more special, it was hosted by what many see as the home of hockey in the South East, with a rich heritage of games being played out of the Eversley leisure centre.
Taking part were the Alstarz, Titans, Cruisers, Crusaders, Raiders, KSF, Sharks and Enforcers, with many giants playing from the games yesteryear, as this was played as a Vets tournament and with this all in the mix it did not disappoint.
This weekend was not just about the hockey being played, but was more about old friends coming together and joining to create a super atmosphere with a BBQ outside with music, bouncy castles and a party feel to the whole weekend.
The games were electric and in-particular the emotional fuelled semi-final seeing the Alstarz v Crusaders being one of the games of the weekend, only to be out staged by the final itself with the Alstarz v Titans, seeing the Alstarz win their tournament.
The final line up looked like this.
And the dream team included, Neil McMahon (Crusaders), Danny Boughton (Titans), Matt France (Alstarz), Barry Skene (KSF), Rob Sheldrake (Alstarz).
We look forward to seeing this excellent event next year.
